“Spiritual, But Not Religious”

We all know people who want so badly to be “religious,” but something keeps them from embracing a formal faith or Church affiliation. You can see their longing in the fact that they self-identify as “spiritual,” but not “religious.” They may refer to “God” in some abstract, cryptic way. Perhaps you once were one of those who resisted religion, but always felt a sense of spirituality in your life. If so, what changed for you? Was it something a family member or friend shared with you? Maybe it was a real encounter with the living God. Share your take on this topic on Wednesday.

Can You Really Trust Your Friend?

11-21-17_best_friend1

Trust is a big thing.  We all have friends we think we can trust with our deepest darkest secrets, but can we?  Maybe friendship is not meant for that. Sometimes people remain friends because they have shared very personal secrets and now they feel beholden to that person because of it. There is a strong human need to be accepted, understood and loved. When we have a friend that we feel comfortable with, we care about and we think we can trust, we may give in to this urge and share deeply.  That is when the true friendship is revealed. Does this person care about my soul or were they my friend because of another reason?  Good questions to ask especially if we are trying to get to heaven and our friends can play a role in that.  Share your take by calling, 1-800-585-9396.

Why Are We Angry?

11-20-17_anger.jpg

Everywhere we turn, people are being mean to one another. Sure, we have the “big” issues like mass shootings and so forth. Yeah, definitely anger at work. But even on a “smaller” scale, we see evidence of anger all around us. Road rage. Social media. Politics. You name it. Anger is a natural human emotion. Jesus expressed His anger at the money-changers in the temple. The Bible exhorts us not to “let the sun go down on your anger.” It’s what we do with angry feelings that’s important. But a deeper question to probe is why are we angry? There are so many irrational expressions of anger. For many people, it comes from life’s wounds, traumas and negative experiences. Let’s delve into this very important topic. Call in with your take on this, 1-800-585-9396.

Feeling Appreciated

11-15-17_appreciated

Oh, so true! People are quick to notice and point out when things are not getting done. But on the flip side, many great things are being accomplished on a daily basis that are routinely overlooked. Almost as though we expect those things to get done and there is little need for a thank you or a word of encouragement.  That is why so many folks feel unappreciated at work and at home.  It doesn’t matter how much they do, the result is still the same, no recognition for the effort that was made.  This all can lead to resentment, frustration, and anger.  Let’s talk about this from a Christian perspective and see if we can come to a greater understanding.  Call us at 1-800-585-9396.

Honor Your Father and Mother

11-14-17_older_parent.jpg

We are all familiar with the Commandment, honor your father and mother.  This is a directive from God.  But sometimes our parents expect way too much. They can be overly demanding even using guilt as a way to get you to respond and take care of their needs.  Some parents have a difficult time letting go of their children, falling into a type of co-dependency.  These situations can become frustrating and even destructive. So how do you find balance and peace with everything in your life, your spouse, your children, your work, and your parents.  Let’s talk about it.  Call in to 1-800-585-9396.

Like Father, Like Son or Daughter

Join Jerry and Debbie on Monday as they welcome back John Finch to the program. John is the producer of the documentary, “The Father Effect,” which aired on EWTN Television. John is a “survivor” of a lost fatherhood. His dad was absent and abusive, finally taking his own life. This led to a desperate search on John’s part to find himself, and to come to realize who he is in the eyes of his earthly and heavenly fathers. John has a new book on this subject, and will share his hard-earned insights on the show on Monday. Be sure to call in with your own experiences of how you have spent a lifetime “looking” for your dad.

Preaching the “Bad News”

In order for the “Good News” to be good, there has to be “bad news” that it is countering. At least that’s the case with the gospel. The gospel is the greatest news ever to be proclaimed. That’s precisely because it’s the answer to the really, really bad news. Yet it seems we live in a world that increasingly either denies or doesn’t realize that sin exists, and that it can potentially lead our souls to eternal damnation. For many people, there is no right or wrong. Just “your truth” and “my truth.” Until each individual personally recognizes that he or she is sinful and in need of a savior, the good news will not be effective in their lives. It’s like telling a medical patient that there is a cure for his or her ailment. No cure is needed unless there is the knowledge of the malady and how serious it is. So, what can we do to help a world that has lost almost any sense of sin rediscover the “bad news,” so that it will wholeheartedly embrace the “good news?” Share your take with Jerry and Debbie on Friday.

Do You Feel Safe in Your Place of Worship?

11-9-17_safe.jpg

We felt the need to address this topic in light of the recent tragedy that took place at the Baptist Church in Texas.  Also, remembering the Charleston, SC church shooting as well.  Houses of worship should be places where we can be at peace, feel safe and secure while we give praise to God.  Sadly, in this day and age, churches are not off-limits to terrorists, or extremists.  Now that churches are fair game, how should we respond.  Should we have armed guards at the entrances of our churches?  Should we enlist civilians to stand guard and protect the congregation?  Or are we going too far with this mindset?  Let’s talk about this unfortunate reality on Thursday’s Take 2 with Jerry and Debbie.  Call in and share your take, 1-800-585-9396.
