Take 2 with Jerry & Debbie

There were so many calls on Monday, when we first introduced this topic, that we left several people on the line at the end of the show. So, as we’ve done a few times in the recent past, we are presenting a part two on Tuesday. If you were unable to get through or get on the show on Monday, please call early so we can make sure you get the opportunity to share something that drives you crazy. As we did on Monday, we’ll once again want to address this question with a view to becoming more virtuous in our own lives.

As we navigate our way through this thing we call life, each one of us develops an appreciation for many things, as well as an irritation at certain things. Among the latter are things that really get under our skin. We might even say, “I hate it when (such-and-such happens).” It could be just about anything, from the way so-and-so dresses, to how certain people on TV report (or misreport) the news. From a gloomy, rainy day, to being served a lousy, lukewarm meal in a restaurant. Perhaps we could call these “pet peeves,” only on steroids. Join us with your take on Monday!

It’s been a great week of shows with our listeners leading the way. And, on Friday, we’ll close out the week with a discussion about finding and living out our purpose in life. God created each one of us for a specific purpose – one that no one else can fulfill. Do you know what yours is? Maybe you’re still trying to discover it. How do you go about doing that? How do you most effectively live out your mission in life? This is what we’ll be talking about on Friday, so don’t miss it!

You meet. You court. You get married and start a family. Then, at some point, this goes wrong, and that goes bad. The honeymoon is over. Welcome to real life. On Thursday, tell us about times in your marriage when you’ve had to dig deep to live your vows. It happens to every married couple, so surely you have something inspiring to share with our global listenership!

You know how it works. The Take 2 With Jerry and Debbie family is a praying family. We lift up you and your intentions every day, and we absolutely count on your prayers. And, once a month we invite you to call with your prayer intentions for all the world to hear. That’s what’s up next on Wednesday’s show. Call early to give us your prayer intention(s)!

Throughout our lives, there may be countless incidents we would like to forget. As little children, our blunders and miscues are “cute” to everyone else. But that’s certainly not always the case when we’re teenagers or adults. The thing is, growing older doesn’t always mean we can avoid messing up. On Tuesday, join the discussion with Jerry and Debbie as we talk about embarrassing moments or events in our lives that we would just as soon forget, remembering that many of the virtues can be cultivated during these embarrassing moments.

On Monday (yeah, we know, it’s usually on the last Friday of the month), Jerry and Debbie will welcome your takes on anything and everything. We just had a string of shows related to the domestic family and the Church family, so we bumped Unscripted to Monday. If there was a recent show you couldn’t call in for, or something on your mind and in your heart, let us hear about it on Monday’s show. Everyday, the show is yours. But, especially on Unscripted. Bring it on Monday!

St. Francis de Sales Prayer:

The everlasting God has in His wisdom foreseen from eternity
the cross that He now presents to you as a gift from His inmost heart.
This cross He now sends you
He has considered with His all-knowing eyes,
understood with His Divine mind,
tested with His wise justice,
warmed with loving arms
and weighed with His own hands
to see that it be not one inch too large
and not one ounce too heavy for you.
He has blessed it with His holy Name,
anointed it with His consolation,
taken one last glance at you and your courage,
and then sent it to you from heaven,
a special greeting from God to you,
an alms of the all-merciful love of God.

On Friday, we wrap up “Family Week.” It’s been a tremendous series of shows so far, and this will be the crown jewel. Everywhere we go, the most frequently mentioned prayer intention of parents, grandparents and family members is that their son(s) or daughter(s) is away from a practice of the faith. Many of us have seen these individuals return to Mass and the sacraments. Others are still waiting, often in tears, for that blessed day to arrive. If this unfortunate scenario touches upon your life, call and let’s talk about it as we head into the weekend.

Thursday is Parental Alienation Awareness Day. It’s sad that we have to set aside a day for something like that. But the stark reality is that many children find themselves in a difficult situation when their parents split up. Many times, the kids are able to spend time with, and continue to be nurtured by, each parent at different times. In other uglier instances, one parent may attempt to paint a dark and sinister picture of their former spouse, thus turning the minds and hearts of the children away from the latter spouse. Have you experienced this in your life? If you listen regularly to the show, you know that this has happened to Debbie, who has not had a meaningful relationship with her two sons for many years. As hard as it may be to talk about this, let’s have a candid – and, God-willing, helpful –  discussion about it.

On Wednesday, Jerry and Debbie continue their “family week” to kick off the Easter season. We’re talking all week about our domestic families and our overall Church family. Thanks be to God, the latter got a little bigger at the Easter Vigil again this year. Were you among those who entered into full communion with the Catholic Church? If you’re a convert, or a revert, to the Catholic faith, call in early to make sure you get on the show to tell the world why you made that decision, and what emotions you experienced when it happened.
