Throughout the Church’s history, there have been countless men and women who have laid down their lives for the sake of Jesus and His Church. This, of course, goes all the way back to the earliest days of Christianity. Wednesday (July 8) is the day the Church celebrates the memory and glorious martyrdom of seven sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, who, according to http://www.catholicsaints.info were all beheaded on July 9, in one of the periodic crackdowns against foreign missionaries in China. The sisters were sent to the Shanxi diocese to serve the poor in hospitals, and care for the unwanted or others who were destitute in orphanages. They were

We’re using as our point of departure the incredible story of Job in the Old Testament, which describes Job as “blameless and upright, one who feared God, and turned away from evil.” Yet, God permitted all that Job had to come under Satan’s power (except Satan was forbidden to lay a hand on Job himself). Job – the innocent man who suffered so much – loses most of his family, his servants, his land and his livestock. For his patience and acceptance of suffering, without cursing God, Job is eventually given twice as much as he had before. Have you suffered tremendously?
