Monday’s show about priests was terrific. Three priests called to share what they love about being ordained and ministering to God’s people. And several laypeople shared their love for the priesthood. On Tuesday, we switch to inviting calls from religious brothers and sisters about their vocations. You have heard it said, “You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family.” How true this is! Many times our friends are more like “family” to us than our own birth family. Friends seem so easy to love. Friends are fun to be around. While family sometimes can be difficult , challenging and even downright annoying. But maybe that is the way God designed it. The family can be a wonderful place to grow in holiness. We can practice the virtues right in the domestic church, our family. Let’s have a candid conversation about family versus friends. So many people today are providing care for a parent, grandparent or other loved one who is struggling with a disease like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc. It can be very difficult, both for the person with the illness and those who are caring for them. It’s human nature to look in the rearview mirror as we go through life. And we often see things we kind of wish we could do over. Not necessarily because what you did turned out badly.
