I Learned That From My Parents

10_24_17-parents.jpgWe are all products of our families. No one more than our parents. From the youngest of ages, our eyes are on our fathers and mothers. Children learn at the earliest age by watching their parents. Did you learn love from your parents? Perhaps you came from a family whose parents fought a lot. Or maybe you came from a family of worriers. It’s not unusual for kids to take on the traits of their parents. Which parent had the most impact on you? Was it your mother or father? Or maybe you are a healthy balance of both.  Let’s talk about this and more on the next Take 2 with Jerry and Debbie. (Jerry is traveling and will not be on the show, so please keep him in your prayers for a safe journey) Please do call in though and keep Debbie company, 1-800-585-9396.

Wedding Day Blessings

OK. Let’s take a trip in the way-back machine (or maybe not so “way back” for some of you). If you’re married, you surely remember your wedding day. Did you look into your spouse’s eyes and feel like you’d hit the jackpot? Of course you did. What happened on that day? Yes, you both walked down the aisle. But how did your life change that very day? Did you become someone you weren’t before? Were your knees buckling? Were you nervous? How did you feel when the priest or minister said, “You may kiss your spouse?” There is nothing like a wedding day for a husband and wife. Let’s talk about it. On Monday, share your take on a particular memory that still stands out for you to this day.

How Many Languages Do You Speak?

In today’s world, there are more and more of us who speak multiple languages. Are you fluent in more than one language? If so, what are they? How have they served you in your life? Perhaps you’ve “dabbled” a little in learning this or that language. Do you pick up other languages easily? Maybe you struggled a lot to get through your foreign language requirement in high school or college? Share your take on this topic on Thursday’s show.

Be Kind to Yourself

It’s often said that God always forgives, others usually forgive, but we have a hard time forgiving ourselves. It’s true. We are often our own worst critics. When we go to Confession, both God and the Church offer us complete forgiveness. When we walk out of the confessional our sins are completely washed away in the blood of Jesus. Then we often go home, lay our head on the pillow at night and rehash our sins. “I was so bad.” “How could I have done that?” “God could never forgive me.” Well, you’ve been forgiven by God and the Church. Why can’t you forgive yourself? It’s a challenge for all of us. Remember, the Bible says to “love your neighbor as yourself.” A proper and healthy self-love includes showing mercy to ourselves. How are you doing at this? Share your take with Jerry and Debbie on Wednesday.

How I Long to Receive the Eucharist!

In the Church there are many people who are not able to receive the Eucharist for a variety of reasons. This is undoubtedly a painful reality for those who are barred from receiving due to marital complications or other issues. We want to hear from those who attend Mass but do not receive Communion because of what they perceive as barriers. It just may be that some people are abstaining when they don’t have to. For those who realize there is a legitimate reason for not receiving Communion, let’s have a conversation about it. Maybe a way can be found to clear the path to join in the full Eucharistic celebration of the Church. That’s Tuesday’s discussion with Jerry and Debbie.

How do you retain your strength? What blessings have you experienced by remaining at the side of someone who is being called to carry such a cross? This will be another impactful show, driven by your heartfelt takes. Be sure to call early to make sure you get on with Jerry and Debbie!

The Fruits of Fatima

Friday is the official 100th anniversary of the final apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the three children at Fatima. Her message to the world at that time still rings true today. Have we heeded it? Have we seen the world respond to her requests as she would have asked us to? We’ll be joined by one of the world’s leading Mariologists, Dr. Mark Miravalle, to discuss what have been the fruits of Mary’s apparitions at Fatima. You won’t want to miss it! Be sure to call with your comment or question.

Dangers to the Family

Since the advent of television, so much has been presented as “family friendly.” It still sells today. But how much of what’s on TV is really family friendly? Sure, there may be some offerings that are not going to be offensive to the essential core values of the traditional family. But there are a lot of shows and series that are, quite frankly, dangerous for anyone to watch, let alone young people. One series that may grab the attention of families – since it’s a “family” that presents it – is The Lowe Files. Rob Lowe and his sons chase things like paranormal activities. Our guest Adam Blai will explain the dangers inherent in such a pursuit, we’ll talk about how to be discerning in what your family watches on TV and explore some other present-day dangers to the family.
