Fasting For Spiritual Growth

How has fasting helped you grow in your faith life? Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights, so it is clear fasting has profound spiritual effects. We are coming up on the beginning of Lent, March 6th. This may just be the perfect time to learn how fasting has helped others in their faith life. Let’s learn from one another. This way our Lenten journey can become much more meaningful.

Whom or What Are You Praying For?

It seems to many people like the world is falling apart. Either their own personal worlds, or the entire world is crumbling. We know that Jesus is still Lord, and that His Church is still the means He established for attaining salvation. For that reason, we should train ourselves daily to turn to Him with our needs and petitions. We do that each month on the program, and Friday is your next chance to get our global listening audience to pray for whatever is on your heart. We include prayer requests that you call in, that come via e-mail and social media, as well as text messages. We get to as many as we can, then bring them all together in a short prayer at the end of the broadcast. Let us know what we can pray with you for!

Living In the Here and Now

The only moment we really “have,” or “possess,” or can “make use of” is right now. What’s happened in the past cannot be changed. What remains to unfold in the future is largely unknown. So, why is it that we so often have such a hard time living life “right now,” without looking back or ahead? Too often, we get pulled down by the past. Or, we get anxious about what’s going to happen going forward. Recalling the past, or reflecting on the future, are not necessarily wrong or bad. Each can be fruitful if done in the right manner. But how can we better focus on where are right now, and handle to the best of our ability what we’ve been called by God to do right now, without the burden of the past or a fear of the future getting in the way? Call and share your take on Thursday’s show.

Do You Somehow Avoid Watching the Commercials on TV?

The days are long gone when television ads had to meet certain standards of decency before they could be approved for airing. Oh, sure, there are still a number of do’s and don’ts that advertisers have to follow. But many of those are more for politically correct reasons, rather than for the sake of preserving the innocence of viewers. Modern technology has made it possible to steer clear of objectionable commercial content in a variety of ways, including changing the channel, muting the TV, taping shows and fast forwarding through the ads, and so on. Is this even a concern in your home? If so, do you have any practices in place that help to ensure that your hearts and minds – and, especially, those of your young loved ones – are protected from the frequent moments when they could be violated in some way? Jerry and Debbie have Friday off, as EWTN will have day-long coverage of the March for Life from Washington, D.C. So, share your take on this topic on Monday.

What Do You Really Love to Do?

What really motivates you? Is there something in life that gets you excited to put your feet on the floor in the morning? How would you finish the sentence, “I love to…” Maybe you love going to work. Perhaps it’s getting a precious hug from your spouse or a child. It could be a hobby or an activity of some sort. Of course, it could be some aspect of your faith or spiritual life. We all have things that we truly love doing. But why do you? What is the motivation behind your passion? Help us understand this concept of motivation.  Maybe help us motivate others, especially in their spiritual life.

Legalized Pot, Part 2

Tuesday’s show on legalized marijuana was so popular and impactful, we decided to do a part two on that topic this week. That will air on Friday. Here is what we posted for Tuesday’s show. If you didn’t get a chance to get on the air on Tuesday, be sure to call early on Friday.

____________________________________

It’s inevitable. Young people for decades have had easy access to marijuana. As if that wasn’t bad enough, now, as pot becomes “legal” in states across the country, has that made it even more readily accessible to those you know and love? So many advocates for legalized marijuana are rejoicing and proclaiming the “good news” that what was for so long illegal, is now legal for both medicinal and recreational use. Pot-growing facilities are popping up everywhere, with billboards, sign spinners and advertisements telling would-be customers where to find their products, which range from what you smoke, to what you eat, to what you rub into your body. Are you alarmed about this? Do you have children you’re concerned are going to find it all-too-easy to access marijuana, even though they are not yet old enough to legally obtain it? This seems like a foregone conclusion. But what do you have to say about it? Share your take on Tuesday’s show.

My Life In a Song

Music is a powerful way of communicating, especially at an emotional level. Throughout our lives, we become familiar with any number of songs that sum up who we are, how we’re feeling, what we’re dreaming, and more. If you were asked to narrow it down to one song that best describes your life – either the life you live, or the life you would rather live – what would it be? Share your take on Monday’s show.

Whom or What Are You Praying For?

Last year, we decided to devote one show each month to inviting you to call with your heartfelt prayer intentions. Those shows turned out to be popular and impactful. Since this is your show, we’re going to continue this blessed tradition in 2019. On Thursday, call, e-mail, text or post on social media your prayer intentions. We obviously don’t get to all of them during the live broadcast, but we promise you they are all included in our prayers, including the prayer we offer on the air at the end of the show.
