Monday’s Show on Discipline…

Hi! this is Debbie and I wanted to say thank you to all that are taking the time to share your comments.  We appreciate your effort and learn something new each time you give us your “take” on things…

Again, one of my favorite scripture verses on this subject of discipline is

Hebrews 12:11

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Finally, I wanted to post a picture of Monsignor Peter Dai Bui, Bishop Olmsted and my husband Marty… At the invitation of my husband, Monsignor Bui was the surprise guest today on Take 2 fulfilling my wish that I wanted someone from Italy to call in to the show…Unfortunately, being pressed for time on the show…I was unable to share that Monsignor Bui speaks many languages and in fact did the Nuptial Blessing in Italian at my wedding ceremony… Also, Monsignor Bui has an amazing vocation and family story that I pray he gets to share in the future on Vocation Boom Radio.  If you missed today’s show, you can listen right here on this site…It was a great topic with great calls…and tons of practical advice given to us all…

Make it a great and glorious day!!!

How Do You Discipline Your Kids?

Wow! If there’s a hot-button issue in today’s culture, it’s the question of how, when, and why to discipline our kids. The Bible is full of wisdom on this subject, including Proverbs 13:24 and Hebrews 12:6. But some parents shy away from any meaningful discipline out of a fear of losing their kids’ love. Other parents might go too far in the other direction. What’s your take on this critical subject? Let the world know on Monday’s show!

Prayer- A Step Along the Way

Here is the prayer as promised from today’s show.  This prayer can be found on usccb.org

Archbishop Oscar Romero Prayer: A Step Along the Way

It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view.

The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts, it is even beyond our vision.

We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction of the magnificent
enterprise that is God’s work. Nothing we do is complete, which is a way of
saying that the Kingdom always lies beyond us.

No statement says all that could be said.

No prayer fully expresses our faith.

No confession brings perfection.

No pastoral visit brings wholeness.

No program accomplishes the Church’s mission.

No set of goals and objectives includes everything.

This is what we are about.

We plant the seeds that one day will grow.

We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.

We lay foundations that will need further development.

We provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.

We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.

This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.

It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an
opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.

We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master
builder and the worker.

We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.

We are prophets of a future not our own.

Bishop Ken Untener of Saginaw
*This prayer was composed by Bishop Ken Untener of Saginaw, drafted for a homily by Card. John Dearden in Nov. 1979 for a celebration of departed priests. As a reflection on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Bishop Romero, Bishop Untener included in a reflection book a passage titled “The mystery of the Romero Prayer.” The mystery is that the words of the prayer are attributed to Oscar Romero, but they were never spoken by him.

Why we experience trials and challenges when we do God’s work?

Bridge in storm

Why we experience trials and challenges when we do God’s work? Do we get discouraged? Does it cause us to abandon our pursuits? How readily do we recognize the attempts of Satan to derail it? What actually is the result of spiritual attack, and what is the result of other circumstances?

Sirach 2: 1 – 11
________________________________________
1 My son, if you come forward to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for temptation.
2 Set your heart right and be steadfast, and do not be hasty in time of calamity.
3 Cleave to him and do not depart, that you may be honored at the end of your life.
4 Accept whatever is brought upon you, and in changes that humble you be patient.
5 For gold is tested in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation.
6 Trust in him, and he will help you; make your ways straight, and hope in him.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; and turn not aside, lest you fall.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust in him, and your reward will not fail;
9 you who fear the Lord, hope for good things, for everlasting joy and mercy.
10 Consider the ancient generations and see: who ever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Or who ever persevered in the fear of the Lord and was forsaken? Or who ever called upon him and was overlooked?
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful; he forgives sins and saves in time of affliction
