Surely, the types of violence we now see on our streets, and in our homes and schools, was gigantic news. Tragically, it’s all too familiar to us today, as evidenced by the frequent news reports of horrific violence. While people treating one another violently is nothing new (recall Cain’s slaying of Abel in the book of Genesis), how is it that it’s become so commonplace that we often seem desensitized to it? We often see the bumper stickers that proclaim, “I’m Catholic and I Vote.” While that may have one time made politicians and others stand up and take notice, does it really matter anymore? Is there such thing as the “Catholic vote” today? What should we think or do about all of the so-called Catholics who don’t vote like Catholics? In some instances, it becomes a long term situation in which you are responsible for a great deal of the other person’s overall well being. If you find, or have found, yourself in such circumstances, how has it impacted you?
