The Power of Pornography

Are you or is someone you know caught in the grip of pornography? According to one study, over $3,000 is being spent on it every second. And that doesn’t include the mind-boggling amount of free pornography that’s available online and elsewhere. As pornography’s purveyors laugh all the way to the bank, its victims are left strewn everywhere. Marriages and families have been destroyed. Careers have been trashed. Worst of all, only God knows how many souls have been lost because of the seemingly limitless reach and power of this scourge. On Friday, Jerry and Debbie will welcome Dr. Monica Breaux to the program – as well as your takes – to discuss what can be done to avoid or break free from pornography’s clutches. Don’t miss it!

How Do You Celebrate Cinco de Mayo?

Thursday is Cinco de Mayo. Wikipedia describes it this way:

Cinco de Mayo (pronounced: [ˈsiŋko ðe ˈmaʝo]; Spanish for “May 5th”, or literally, “Five of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.

If you celebrate Cinco de Mayo in any way, let us know about it. Share your take with Jerry and Debbie at Noon ET!

How Do You “Love and Serve the Lord” After Mass?

How many times have you heard the words at the conclusion of Mass, “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord?” How do we most effectively “serve the Lord?” By bringing Him to others. As it says on the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:

After the blessing, the deacon dismisses the people. In fact, the dismissal gives the liturgy its name. The word “Mass” comes from the Latin word, ” Missa.” At one time, the people were dismissed with the words “Ite, missa est” (literally meaning “Go, she—meaning you, the Church—has been sent”). The word “Missa” is related to the word “missio,” the root of the English word “mission.” The liturgy does not simply come to an end. Those assembled are sent forth to bring the fruits of the Eucharist to the world.

On Wednesday, share your take on how your participation at Mass and reception of the Eucharist fill you with a missionary zeal to evangelize those you know and love!

Who Is Mary to You?

May is considered the Month of Mary for Catholics. But that may not mean anything to you, whether you’re Catholic or not. Why does the Catholic Church devote a whole month to the woman who gave birth to Jesus? If you have a devotion to Mary, can you give an explanation why? We look forward to your takes on Tuesday’s show with Jerry and Debbie.

THE MEMORARE:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

How Do You Most Effectively Learn the Faith?

Many people learn best when they read books. Others by watching DVD’s or listening to CD’s. Still others might learn better when discussing a particular subject. On Monday, share your take with Jerry and Debbie – and the world – about how you most effectively learn the faith. Are you a bookworm? Do you retain the faith more easily by watching TV or a video? Perhaps you’re someone who picks things up most readily by sitting in on a course about a certain faith topic. There are differences in the way we all do things, and what you share on Monday could help others take a new and different look at how they learn our beautiful Catholic faith!

Street Corner Beggars

On Thursday, Jerry and Debbie will welcome your takes on how you address the issue of men and women who stand on street corners, intersections and freeway off ramps asking for money. Most of us are compassionate and want to help them. And many of them are legitimately in need. Still, like many who ask for money on the streets, is rolling down the window and handing them a buck or two the best thing to do? It could be. Or, perhaps you prefer to say a prayer, hand them a prayer card, or even offer them a coupon to get something to eat. Let’s talk about this and see what you believe is the best approach. Join us at Noon ET (with a replay at Midnight ET) on EWTN Radio.

Are You Feeling the Heat?

One can scarcely deny that there is a all-out assault on Christianity happening today. Everywhere we turn it is evident. But does the average Catholic (or other Christian) actually feel the heat? Or are people ignoring what’s going on? On Wednesday, Jerry and Debbie will invite your takes on this topic. It’s often easy to read the headlines or watch the news and think that the persecution is happening somewhere else, to someone else. It really doesn’t affect me. But if we are truly trying to live for Jesus, and we have a concern for every soul on the face of the earth, then we should personally feel the heat of the rapidly building anti-Christian sentiment. Join us for what promises to be a lively discussion!

Has Your Spouse Stopped Practicing the Faith?

Getting married “in the Church” is important to most young Catholics. They may have a Catholic ceremony, start out attending Mas regularly, perhaps even get involved in their parish along the way. But heartache hits many couples when one of them “decides” that he or she no longer wants to attend Mass, spend time in prayer, etc. That can be very traumatic for the spouse who remains faithful. Has this happened in your marriage? How have you dealt with it? Share your take with Jerry and Debbie on Monday.

How Do You Develop Good Habits?

Life is full of opportunities to develop either good habits or bad habits. Of course, if you ask almost anyone, he will tell you that he would rather cultivate the good ones. But that takes intentional efforts on our part, making right choices and practicing good habits over and over again. On Friday, share your take with Jerry and Debbie – and the world – on how you work hard to make sure your good habits far outweighs your bad ones.

Is God Dead?

Of course, that’s a facetious question to those who believe in God, in Jesus and in His Church. But study after study, poll after poll, seem to indicate a decline in the belief in God. But does His existence and involvement in human affairs depend on a majority opinion? Jerry and Debbie – and, most likely, you – would answer to the contrary. So, how does public opinion about God, His existence and His relevance affect you, if at all? Do you have family members or friends who claim there is no God? How do you dialogue with them in an attempt to charitably and articulately persuade them to change their minds? Remember, your takes drive the show, so join us for this important discussion on Thursday at Noon ET!
