Take 2 with Jerry & Debbie

Isolation and Addiction

On Tuesday, Jerry and Debbie welcome your takes on the subjects of isolation and addiction. Does one feed into the other? It seems that it’s much more likely that a person will develop addictions if he or she remains isolated. Similarly, addictive behavior can very often lead a person to want to “isolate” from others. That can be the result of shame, a desire to not be seen indulging in one’s addiction of choice, etc. Join us and call in for what promises to be a heartfelt conversation.

Hey, What About Me?!

It’s almost a certainty that at some point in your life you have been snubbed. Or at least you thought you were. Passed over for a raise, a promotion, inclusion on the varsity volleyball or basketball team. How did you react to seeing someone else – who was perhaps less deserving or had less seniority – get selected before you? Did you see the hand of God in what happened, especially looking back years later? These circumstances can be difficult to accept. But there’s a valuable lesson in each and every one of them. Share your take with Jerry and Debbie during our last live broadcast before the Thanksgiving Weekend!

Latin is Not Just For Lovers

On Tuesday, Jerry and Debbie will welcome your takes on the importance of Latin to so many other languages, to the Church, to science, medicine, education, etc. We want to know if you’ve ever studied Latin, how you’ve used it, how much you have retained, if Latin has helped you become better at using the English language (or other languages that derive from Latin), if you think it’s good that Latin is the official language of the Church, etc. Call in and let’s have a lively conversation about this at Noon ET!

Would You Shed Your Blood for Jesus?

Cardinal Francis George prophesied that he would die in bed (which he did), his successor would die in prison, and his successor’s successor would die a martyr in the public square. We’re seeing countless Christians losing their lives for the faith around the world. What’s coming in the United States and other geographic regions where blood being shed for the faith is not as common? Hebrews 12:4 says, “In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” Too often, we think that “martyrs” are those who lived centuries ago, or who are killed for their faith “over there” (i.e. in far away countries). Are we on the verge of a new era of martyrdom even on American soil? Or has the world experienced the worst of this scourge? Share your take with Jerry and Debbie on Monday.

What Have You Learned From “Father” Benedict?

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI served as the Church’s Holy Father from 2005-13. He was the first pope to resign in nearly 600 years. But, like every pope, he is first and foremost a priest of the Church. On Friday, Jerry and Debbie will be joined by guest James Day, author of the newly-released book, Father Benedict. In the book, author Day examines the life and legacy of Joseph Ratzinger, one of the most intelligent and articulate priests and popes in recent memory. What have you learned from “Father” Benedict? What questions do you have about his 65 years as a priest? Be sure to call in with your questions and takes as we end the week on this blessed note.

Have You Ever Committed an Inadvertent Blunder?

There are moments in life when we do things that are incorrect, illegal, improper or just downright silly. At times, we do these things without even realizing our mistake. It’s only after the fact that we look back and feel a little uneasy about what we’ve done. Occasionally, it’s because people point out our accidental blunders. Jerry and Debbie have their own examples of this to share on Thursday. Tune in, and if you are so inclined, offer your own story of a miscue for our listeners to learn from.

Keep On Truckin’

Occasionally, truck drivers call the show to share a take on a particular topic. On Tuesday, Jerry and Debbie want to hear from those of you who spend a great deal of your lives on the road, transporting and delivering many of the goods that improve our quality of life. Many of you pass long hours and days behind the wheel, stuck in traffic and sleeping in the cabs of your trucks. Those long hours on the road give you time to think, pray and reflect on the important things of life (time that is not always afforded to the rest of us who are always running here, running there). So, if you’re an over-the-road truck driver, call and share your experience!

Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

Life is filled with worries, even though Jesus advises us not to be concerned and to trust completely in Him. There are even times when we fear certain things are going to happen – even though there is no concrete reason to think they will – and those fears become realized. Is that a matter of worrying our way to difficulties or challenges? Do our thoughts sometimes influence our actions such that we actually help to bring about the things we irrationally fear? Let’s talk about these self-fulfilling prophecies on Monday with Jerry and Debbie at Noon ET.

What Does Holiness Mean to You?

On Tuesday – All Saints Day – Jerry and Debbie welcome your takes on what it means to be “holy.” A lot of us think it means spending hours a day in prayer. Others might think it means you have to be a priest or religious in order to attain holiness. But as the Church teaches, we’re all called to holiness. That must mean that regardless of one’s life circumstances, holiness is within reach of everyone. How do you understand that? What do you do to grow in holiness, without which no one will enter heaven? Call and share your insightful take on our next broadcast.
