On Tuesday, Jerry and Debbie – and you – will go deep as we invite men to call in and share your experiences of having been driven to your knees by the circumstances of life. Perhaps it was a relationship that didn’t work out. Estrangement from a spouse or child. Realizing you couldn’t battle a certain sin on your own. Men often think it’s a sign of weakness to cry, to grieve, to be “brought to their knees” by life’s challenges. Tell us of a time when you were literally brought to your knees by things outside of your control, and how that changed your life, God-willing, for the better.

Most of us look very forward to weekends. Often that’s because they give us an opportunity to “catch up” on things that have gone unattended during the week, including things related to work. It’s an ever-increasing temptation, especially in a world that places a higher value on productivity than almost everything else. But we all know well the biblical mandate to set Sundays aside as a day of rest and to honor the Lord. How do you do your best to make sure you’re not engaging in unnecessary work or activities that prevent you from doing that? Some have to work on Sundays in order to support themselves and their families. Do you pick a different day during the week to shut down and rest? As evidenced by the latest mass school shooting in Florida, our world is increasingly lost. What a horrible tragedy. Just the latest in a long string of such incidents. Too many. One is too many. But things have gotten out of hand. On Thursday, Jerry and Debbie are going to switch from their scheduled topic to a discussion of what’s gone wrong with society. There are so many possible explanations. What’s yours? Let’s have a frank discussion about where we are, where we’re going and what we might be able to do to turn things around.

We read the Bible, hear it read at Mass and have others quote it to us. There are thousands of intriguing characters and passages contained in the Scriptures. Sometimes, we just latch on to someone or something that reminds us of ourselves and/or our life circumstances. Is there a person or passage that you can especially identify with? There was a time when men wore suits to almost all occasions, including work, and even to the ballpark to watch a game. Same with women, who would wear dresses in similar environments. A lot has changed, to the point where many corporations encourage their employees to come to work “casual,” which sometimes even means worn out jeans and a wrinkled T-shirt. This is to say nothing of the changes in the way people dress to attend Mass. On Friday, share your take with Jerry and Debbie on how this has changed during your lifetime, and if you think it’s a good or bad thing..

It’s said that wisdom comes with age. At least, we should hope it would. As we get older, hopefully we are gaining valuable life experiences that can help us in many ways. And that we can also hand on to those younger than us. Is there one thing you could zero in on that you would pass on to the next generation if you had the chance? Well, on Thursday, you will!

We briefly discuss the history of Catholic Answers, and the fact that Jerry was the founding host of Catholic Answers Live, which has aired on EWTN Radio for over twenty years. Then the discussion shifts to some of the books that helped to shape Karl’s own mind and heart, which he delves into in his latest book titled, “Booked For Life: The Bibliographic Memoir Of An Accidental Apologist.” You’ll get some great suggestions for books you may wish to add to your own library!

While marriage is designed to be lived out by husband and wife in complete fidelity to one another, history is fraught with instances of infidelity. It happens far too often, usually leaving in its wake a trail of heartache and family wreckage. Yet, there are those grace-filled situations where spouses are able to reconcile and forgiveness is given and received. Life is really amazing. Every one of us goes through periods of great joy and satisfaction. We each also go through difficult stages of life. No matter what age we are, we can look back and scan the duration of our lives and see various times when there was a real contentment, like things were hitting on all cylinders. Can you point to that time in your life? Is it perhaps right now? Would you go back to the “good old days” if you had the chance?
