The Long Reach of Saul Alinsky

On Wednesday evening, EWTN debuted a docu-drama titled, “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.” It was about Saul Alinsky, a self-made radical and “community organizer.” His socialist influence took root in Chicago and has spread far and wide, to the point where many American politicians – and even some in the Church – have embraced and implemented his views. Fr. Mitch Pacwa joins Jerry and Debbie to unpack the views of this man and his far-flung influence. Don’t miss it!

Young People Then and Now

Previous generations of young people didn’t have their own nice cars, smartphones, life-like [and violent] video games, social media, etc. Times have changed. Have they changed for the better? Young people used to run around outside, build forts and tree houses, spend hours romping around the neighborhood and the countryside. Today, a great number of them are controlled by the things mentioned above. Is this good, bad or neutral for our youth? Call and share your take on Wednesday!

Why The Saints Matter

Jerry will be traveling to a Catholic radio pledge drive on Tuesday, so Debbie will be all by herself. Well, not completely alone. She’ll be joined by Jon Leonetti of Iowa Catholic Radio. They’ll talk about how we need to cultivate close relationships with the saints, who often become our “heroes.” The saints are not people who lived “a long time ago.” They are alive in Christ, just as we are. Thus, we can communicate with them and ask them to pray for us. Share your take on how you relate to the Church’s saints on Tuesday with Debbie and Jon Leonetti!

PRAYER TO ST. JUDE

Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hope.
Please intercede on my behalf. Make use of that particular privilege given to you to bring hope, comfort, and help where they are needed most.
Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven as I work with my challenges, particularly (here make your request). I praise God with you and all the saints forever.
I promise, blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you.
Amen.

NOVENA TO ST. JUDE

Do Catholics Count Anymore?

Not too long ago, the Catholic Church was respected by almost everyone, and even feared by those who would dare to push the cultural and moral envelope. Today, it’s a very different story. Have we as Catholic Christians been pushed to the margins of society? Does our culture or the world have any respect for the beliefs and opinions of Catholics anymore? Share your take with Jerry and Debbie on Friday at Noon ET.

Navigating This “Valley of Tears”

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. It marks a day when we recall the events in the life of the Virgin Mary that “pierced her heart,” as Simeon foretold. Not even Jesus, the God-man, nor his sinless mother were exempt from pain and suffering. So, today, we ask you, our devoted listeners, what has been a sorrow in your life that you are either still struggling to move beyond, or have found peace in its aftermath? Share your take with Jerry and Debbie – and the world – beginning at Noon ET (with a reply at Midnight ET) on EWTN Radio.

What Has Catholic Radio Done For You?

We believe Catholic radio is one of the greatest things to happen to the Church in our lifetime. It’s part of the wider growth of Catholic media, which includes television, print publications, books, blogs and websites, and a lot more. But there’s something unique about Catholic radio among all of those other forms of media: it is more portable and accessible than the others. Jerry and Debbie have heard just about every Catholic radio “success story,” stories of changed lives and saved souls. But they haven’t heard your story yet. Call and share your take on Wednesday about how Catholic radio has impacted your life.

It’s Great to Be a Grandparent

It’s a pretty universal experience for all grandparents. When their kids start having kids, it brings untold joys and blessings into their lives. Monday, let’s talk about some of them specifically. Have your grandchildren helped keep you from being lonely if you’re a widow or widower? Have they gotten you up off the couch to become more active again? Do you have opportunities again to teach precious little hearts about Jesus? Is it that you just love being able to “eat without doing the dishes” (meaning, enjoy all the fun with the grandkids, but not having to take them home, clean them up and put them to bed 🙂

Remembering 9/11

As we approach the anniversary of 9/11, this is our opportunity to remember all the heroes.  From the brave victims, the first responders, the clergy, the hospital workers, the family members…so many people were “Christ” that fateful day.  A great reminder to us all, how faith plays a major role in times of crisis. Where were you when it happened? How did it shape or change your life? Have we as a nation retained any of the lessons from its aftermath? Share your take with Jerry and Debbie on Friday. They’ll be joined in the first segment of the show by an amazing lady whose husband – who was supposed to be somewhere else that day – lost his life in the World Trade Center attack.

I’d Become a Catholic, But…

As a listener to Catholic radio, you are likely aware of the fact that we believe Jesus Christ established one Church – the Catholic Church – in order to lead all people to salvation. For 1,500 years, there was tremendous unity within Christianity throughout the world. Today, people belong to thousands of different “churches.” On Wednesday, Jerry and Debbie want to talk with you if you have entertained the idea of becoming a Catholic, but for some reason just haven’t been able to make the move into the Catholic Church. It could be because of the way some Catholics live their faith half-heartedly. Perhaps it’s because of something you have read or heard about Catholicism. Maybe you did choose to enter the Catholic Church, but only after a lengthy struggle to get beyond a particular obstacle. Or you may be one of many who have felt the need to leave the Catholic Church for another Christian tradition – or for no faith at all. We’ll be talking real-life issues with your takes on Wednesday.

What Sacrifices Have You Made For Your Children?

Everyone hopes to “succeed” at something in life. When we’re young, we have dreams of what our careers will be like, where we’ll live, what kind of home we’ll have, the person we’ll marry, etc. As those things start to fall into place, reality often sets in and things don’t always go exactly as we had planned. Parents often find themselves giving up or sacrificing certain things they would like to attain for the benefit of their children. Not taking a job in a far away town so you can be there as your kids grow up. Foregoing the time and cost of getting an advanced degree so you can put your children through Catholic school. Offering your precious spare time as a coach of your kids’ youth sports. Even dealing with a debilitating illness or injury. The list could go on and on. These things, although they are “sacrifices,” are also sources of blessings for parents, who want more than anything to see their children happy and successful. Join Jerry and Debbie on Tuesday and share what you have done to deny what you may have desired for the sake of your kids.
