How I Long to Receive the Eucharist!

In the Church there are many people who are not able to receive the Eucharist for a variety of reasons. This is undoubtedly a painful reality for those who are barred from receiving due to marital complications or other issues. We want to hear from those who attend Mass but do not receive Communion because of what they perceive as barriers. It just may be that some people are abstaining when they don’t have to. For those who realize there is a legitimate reason for not receiving Communion, let’s have a conversation about it. Maybe a way can be found to clear the path to join in the full Eucharistic celebration of the Church. That’s Tuesday’s discussion with Jerry and Debbie.

The Fruits of Fatima

Friday is the official 100th anniversary of the final apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the three children at Fatima. Her message to the world at that time still rings true today. Have we heeded it? Have we seen the world respond to her requests as she would have asked us to? We’ll be joined by one of the world’s leading Mariologists, Dr. Mark Miravalle, to discuss what have been the fruits of Mary’s apparitions at Fatima. You won’t want to miss it! Be sure to call with your comment or question.

Dangers to the Family

Since the advent of television, so much has been presented as “family friendly.” It still sells today. But how much of what’s on TV is really family friendly? Sure, there may be some offerings that are not going to be offensive to the essential core values of the traditional family. But there are a lot of shows and series that are, quite frankly, dangerous for anyone to watch, let alone young people. One series that may grab the attention of families – since it’s a “family” that presents it – is The Lowe Files. Rob Lowe and his sons chase things like paranormal activities. Our guest Adam Blai will explain the dangers inherent in such a pursuit, we’ll talk about how to be discerning in what your family watches on TV and explore some other present-day dangers to the family.

Seeing Through Sacramental Glasses

On Monday, call and share with Jerry and Debbie – and the world – how your love for your spouse has grown over the years or decades, in spite of him or her getting older, gaining weight, struggling with sin, turning out to not be “perfect,” losing his hair, having obnoxious relatives, etc. Should be a truly inspiring conversation. Be sure you’re part of it!

Do We Need the Latest and Greatest Technology?

The secular marketplace tells us that we need to “keep up with the Joneses.” Is it all that important? Do you feel that you need to upgrade when something new comes out in order to get your work done or keep up with life? Or, how do you resist the temptation to spend thousands on a regular basis in order to do this? Perhaps you are among the many who believe that “planned obsolescence” is the name of the game, and that technology manufacturers intentionally build their items to run out of life after a certain period of time. Share your take on this on Thursday’s show.

What Does That Post Really Mean?

Almost everyone uses social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and countless other platforms. The ways in which people use those media are as varied as the people who use them. We post all kinds of things. But do we sometimes say things that are on our minds and hearts in ways that make it difficult for readers to get the true meaning of what we’re saying? Cryptic messages? Veiled criticism of others? Political or social statements that aren’t easy to decipher? What has been your experience of interacting with your family, friends and colleagues on social media? Do you find that you sometimes have to read between the lines to get the deeper messages that people are posting? Share your take on this topic with Jerry and Debbie on Thursday’s show.

Pursuing Priestly Vocations

Jerry is on location in New Orleans at this year’s gathering of the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors. He’s here with a couple hundred vocation directors from across the United States and around the world, along with numerous other priests, religious and laypeople dedicated to the cause of promoting priestly vocations. He’ll be joined on Wednesday by Rose Sullivan, Executive Director of the NCDVD, as well as a couple of young vocation directors. You’re invited to call and share what you’re doing to help bring about an increase in vocations in your part of the world. Here is Jerry with Grant Aasen, a seminarian at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, before Mass on Tuesday. Grant recently decided to forego his final year of eligibility as the punter on Georgia Tech’s football team to become a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
