We all should go to the Sacrament of Confession on a regular basis. Especially if we are trying to control a certain sin or vice. Part of the sacrament’s fulfillment is performing whatever penance the priest prescribes. On Friday, we’re going to talk about this, discuss whether we think the usual penances are too harsh or too light, and if we’ve ever been given creative penances. Please join us.

Good morning from Lafayette, Louisiana! I love the Sacrament of Reconciliation. What a gift God has given us! I wanted to share a special moment I experienced. For my penance once, Father told me to sit and think about how much God loves me. I thought this odd, but I went sit in a pew and attempted to do what I was instructed. My eyes rested on a statue of Mary. Immediately I began thinking about how much God must love Mary; she is His mother. I was having this thought when at that moment, I heard in my heart the words, “I love you just as much”! My eyes watered as I realized what the Holy Spirit had revealed to me. I am forever grateful to my priest for that odd penance. It made me realize the depth of God’s love for me!
