Realizing that we are all fallen human beings, it’s still extremely unfortunate when a fellow believer – whether a layperson or a member of the clergy – says or does something to scandalize other members of the Church. Many fallen-away Catholics will claim that it was just such an experience that led them to leave the Church. We pray that a civil discussion of this sensitive issue will lead us all back to the critical truth that in the end there is ultimately never a justifiable objective reason to walk away from the Church founded by Christ Himself.
