Why do people love their pets sometimes more than humans?

Respect for the integrity of creation

2415 The seventh commandment enjoins respect for the integrity of creation. Animals, like plants and inanimate beings, are by nature destined for the common good of past, present, and future humanity.Use of the mineral, vegetable, and animal resources of the universe cannot be divorced from respect for moral imperatives. Man’s dominion over inanimate and other living beings granted by the Creator is not absolute; it is limited by concern for the quality of life of his neighbor, including generations to come; it requires a religious respect for the integrity of creation.

2416 Animals are God’s creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory. Thus men owe them kindness. We should recall the gentleness with which saints like St. Francis of Assisi or St. Philip Neri treated animals.

2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image. Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

2418 It is contrary to human dignity to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. It is likewise unworthy to spend money on them that should as a priority go to the relief of human misery. One can love animals; one should not direct to them the affection due only to persons.

IMG00062-20090522-1516_resized_1Please tune in to Take 2 with Jerry and Debbie on Monday at 9am Pacific or Noon Eastern…for this GREAT SHOW on pets!  And Yes!  This is a picture of “Grace” our Maltese taking it easy on a Sunday afternoon.  She does feel that she owns the house.  But with a face like that, how can one not let her rule, right?

Also, want to again thank all who called in to the show and shared from your heart different takes on topics…I literally have pages and pages of notes or I should say of your gifts of wisdom that you imparted to us.  If you want to call in to the show and are concerned that you may sit on hold and not be able to hear the show in progress; be at peace, because while you are waiting your turn to be on the air…you are listening to the show.  So you won’t miss anything!  How cool is that?

Finally, deep heartfelt gratitude to all that shared their personal stories of losing a child.  Your strength and faith to endure the pain has been an inspiration to all of us.  My prayer is that may God continue to give you strength, peace and healing…plus an ability to find daily joy amidst the pain.

I personally feel we have a great community here at Take 2….you, us and the new friends we encounter each time the show airs!  Let’s keep the conversation going but more importantly let’s ramp up prayers for all of our intentions!  We are in this world together, THE BODY OF CHRIST.

  1. Great post, Deb. I echo what she said, everyone. Your participation in the show is what drives it. We like to call it “life-driven” radio. We don’t view you as just a listener to a radio show. We hope and pray that what we do each day on the show adds healthy, positive insights and perspective to your life – often supplied by you and your fellow listeners.

Gotta’ give a shout out to Gracie! She really is a wonderful dog. I hope to get another dog sometime soon. I just need to stay home more for that to happen 🙂

    Have a blessed weekend!

    • Well said Jerry…and our little joy is special cause her name is GRACE….It’s all about Grace! The Grace of God that is…. That is why we named her Grace to remind us daily and that is why we named our real estate company Grace Realty…cause to state it again…IT’S ALL ABOUT GRACE…

  2. Our family was watching an animal rescue show. The rescuers arrived when the owner was out and the emaciated, beaten, abused dog was under the front porch, barking at the rescuers. As they were trying to lure the dog out, the owners vehicle pulled into the driveway and the dog, between barking and growling at the rescuers would wag its tail, because the owner was home.
Sensing a teaching moment, I pointed out to my kids on no matter how bad the dog was treated, the dog still loved the owner and that’s an example on God’s love for us. No matter how treat our relationship with God, he still loves us. It’s that aspect of an animal’s love that we repect.
